In September 2009, a far-fetched idea was hatched within ARISE to re-open the Big Tupper Ski Area. People said that it couldn’t be done. Together, we proved them wrong and in only four months we welcomed visitors to Ski Big Tupper, Again! This was made possible by the efforts of over 200 volunteers and by the generous support of people like you.
ARISE is excited to inform you that we plan to open Big Tupper again for the 2011-2012 ski season. Work is already underway. To make our third season possible, we will again need the efforts of our dedicated volunteers and will need your financial support. Just to open and operate Big Tupper, even with an all-volunteer staff, costs over $100,000!
The Directors of ARISE recognized that their efforts at Big Tupper would span three ski seasons, due to the on-going review process of the Adirondack Club and Resort. Until such time that the approval is given, the principals of the ACR are not allowed to contribute to the operation, or improvements of Big Tupper Ski Area. As that process nears the end with the Adirondack Park Agency, we look to our volunteers and donors one more time, to keep the operation of Big Tupper going. And, this year ARISE will have help from the Chamber of Commerce, allowing for a more exciting season of opportunities.

ARISE strongly supports community development projects such as The Adirondack Club & Resort (ACR). The main reason for our strong support is that the ACR is the only long-term viable way for a strong economic future for Tupper Lake and ongoing skiing at Big Tupper. Our interim stewardship of this very special part of our community is focused on making Big Tupper sustainable and available for future generations. There are many volunteers who have contributed hours of their time in hopes that one day in the near future, they will have the opportunity to be paid for their efforts. At a time when the Adirondack economy is showing just how fragile it is, the Adirondack Club is the right project, at the right time, and in the right place.
This season, we are introducing a new ‘Powder Pass’ ID card that Patrons and Season Pass Holders will use to check in at Big Tupper. We will be holding drawings and special events for ‘Powder Pass’ holders this season.

In addition to the many sponsorship opportunities available to support Big Tupper, we’ve created a new Ski Big Tupper Gift Cardthat can be purchased to give the gift of skiing at Big Tupper to family and friends. The Gift Card can be loaded with any amount, and can be used at the Ski Lodge to purchase day passes, season passes, ski lessons or Big Tupper merchandise.
