The Big Tupper Snowball has become known as the area’s social event of the season, and this years event is set for Saturday, December 12th from 8pm to Midnight. Snowball Chairman, Matt Ellis, is excited to announce that every person who purchases a ticket, they will be entered into a drawing for a trip for two to Las Vegas. Ellis said, “We’re thrilled to give every ticket purchaser a chance to win a trip to Las Vegas that will include round trip air fare, 2 nights at the MGM Grand with tickets to the Brooks & Dunn and Reba McEntire show the first night, and a special show featuring David Copperfield on the second night.”

Ellis went on to say that, “we have also added a Silent Auction to this years event that includes round trip air fare from Adirondack Airport to Boston, items from professional golfer Greg Norman, golf passes to area golf courses, ski and stay packages, Adirondack furniture and art, spa packages, and much more. Besides having a great time, there will be a lot of people going home with some very special gifts.”

There will be an open bar with beer and wine, the food will be catered by The Well Dressed Food Company and the event will feature live and DJ entertainment.

Tickets are $50 and are on sale at The Well Dressed Food Company, Tupper Lake Supply, the Tupper Lake Chamber of Commerce, CBNA Insurance, the Tupper Lake Free Press, LaValley Real Estate, P-2’s Irish Pub and additional locations to be announced. Big Tupper Wants Your Soup!

On Friday, February 13th, ARISE will offer a free ski day to any person 18 years or younger, who brings a canned good to mountain. ARISE will be collecting the canned goods to bring to the food pantry.

Ski conditions are excellent and according to Manager Ted Merrihew, “we expect a lot more trails open this coming weekend with excellent ski conditions from top to bottom. We’re excited to be open and encourage our friends from around the North Country to come ski Big Tupper.”

ARISE has been operating Big Tupper for the past six years, and has provided affordable skiing due to the volunteer commitment. ARISE Chairman Jim LaValley said, “our mission is to create activity that generates economic activity throughout the community. Besides Big Tupper, we look forward to implementing other initiatives that continue with the same intent.”

Ski Big Tupper Open Tupper Lake 2012

The snow has finally arrived in Tupper Lake and the management of Big Tupper Ski Area is anticipating their Grand Opening for 2015 this weekend!

As part of the celebration lift prices will be lowered to $ 10 for all skiers and riders 18 and under. This promotion will apply to both Saturday and Sunday. Adult tickets will be continued to be sold at the low price of $25. As usual children 6 and under ski free.

Big T’s master groomers Billy Mozdzier and Tim Brown have been working hard to prepare the lower mountain for this weekends festivities.

At a recent meeting, manager Ted Merrihew stated “we are thrilled to be able to open and provide this genrerous discount to the areas children as part of Big Tupper’s long tradition of supporting youth participaton in healthy Winter sport.”

Chair 2 and the rope tow will be operating and accessing 10 to 12 trails, offering beginner to expert ski conditions. Big Tupper Ski Area is located off NYS Route 30, 2 miles south of the village. For more information go to, or on Facebook at Ski Big Tupper.

The Annual Big Tupper “Snowball” – Saturday, December 13th


ARISE of Northern New York will host the Annual Snowball Gala on Saturday, December 13th from 8pm-12am at the Big Tupper Ski Lodge.

“Like the theme of this year’s Big Tupper operation, the 2014 Snow Ball will be all volunteer, all donation.

The ARISE volunteers are counting on this event to help underwrite many of the major expenses expected at the ski center this winter and we know Tupper Lakers and Big Tupper’s many friends in the North Country won’t disappoint them, he added.  The theme of this year’s Big Tupper Snow Ball is the color Red.  The Red depicts the passion and fire that ARISE Volunteers and our Community have for the Ski Area and it’s continued operation,  Mr. Stuart explained this week.”

Your donation of $50 per person will include:

  • Complementary Wine & Beer
  • Hot & Cold Hors d’ oeuvres prepared by Magnus Stalhammer & Staff at Bima’s Pizzeria
  • Live entertainment by local performers
  • Dancing under the Snowball
  • Many giveaways throughout the evening

All proceeds will benefit Ski Big Tupper’s 2014-2015 operations.
